Dental dentures are removable prosthetics designed to replace missing teeth and surrounding soft tissues. Our dentures dentist at Complete Dental Works offers two types of dentures: full and partial. Full dentures are worn to replace an entire mouthful of missing teeth. Partial dentures are used when two or more natural teeth remain.

Full Dentures

Dentures are either conventional or immediate. A full conventional denture is created after all the teeth have been extracted and healing has begun. This type of dental restoration can be worn about 8–12 weeks after removing a mouthful of teeth.

Immediate dentures can be made in advance and placed during the same appointment as the tooth extraction. Therefore, the patient doesn’t have to go toothless while waiting to heal.

However, shrinkage of the gum and bones does occur during the healing time, making it necessary to make more adjustments for a proper fit. For these reasons, an immediate denture is usually only a temporary solution, and an appointment with our dentures dentist will do the most benefit.

Partial Dentures

Unlike a fixed bridge, a partial denture is a removable prosthetic consisting of a plastic base and replacement teeth connected by a metal framework that attaches to existing teeth. Partial dentures can be used when one or more healthy teeth are still in place. Not only do partials fill in gaps left by missing teeth, but they also prevent teeth from shifting out of place.

A partial denture with precision attachments is a more natural-looking tooth replacement option because it latches on internally rather than with clasps on the crowns.
